The trail turns left on Highway #43 to the William Merrick House, built in 1821 by the founder of Merrickville, stands above the Rideau River to the left. The trail crosses the bridge over the Rideau River. The Merrick Tavern built in 1830 by the sons of the founder, stands on the right side of the northern approach.
